It’s #WorldWaterDay, a day the United Nations uses to acknowledge that dysfunction throughout the water cycle is undermining progress on all major global issues, from health to hunger, gender equality to jobs, education to industry, disasters to peace.

Back in 2015, the world committed to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 as part of the 2030 Agenda – the promise that everyone would have safely managed water and sanitation by 2030. Binnies is fully aligned to this mission and aims to lead the conversation on water treatment and sanitation.

Right now, World Water Day says the world is “seriously off-track”. Billions of people and countless schools, businesses, healthcare centres, farms and factories are being held back because their human rights to water and sanitation have not yet been fulfilled, along with other critical sustainable development goals a long way off achieving.

Binnies has aligned our own sustainable development goals to the United Nation’s in a promise to prioritise the future of our planet and access to clean water for all, wherever possible.

It's tomorrow! 👩‍🔧♾️

Let's all get ready to #EmbraceEquity and celebrate #internationalwomensday 2023!

In the second edition of Binnies celebrations and recognitions of some of the worlds most impacting and legacy-leaving individuals, we highlight Edith Clarke's immense contribution to the worlds of digital, mechanical and civil engineering.

Edith Clarke was the world's first salaried female electrical engineer - an immense achievement at the time in the landscape of women in engineering. She later became the first female Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. Edith specialized in electrical power system analysis and later wrote the seminal book Circuit Analysis of A-C Power Systems. Born in February of 1883 she would lead a stellar career breaking many firsts and notable achievements for women in the engineering community, including drafting the electrical concept for the famous Hoover dam.(interestingengineering.com)

It's only 2️⃣ days until #internationalwomensday 2023! 👩‍🔧

Binnies would like to utilise this week to celebrate both the accomplishments of our own highly talented pool of female employees, and those around the world from the past and present to illustrate the extreme importance of March 8th.

Today, we highlight the contributions made towards the engineering industry by Sarah Guppy, an integral cog in the design works of the modern day suspension bridge!

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) describes Sarah Guppy as "indeed a unique individual and a trailblazer in the world of engineering. Her interest in engineering led to her taking out patents on several domestic appliances, including a precursor to the toaster. This doubtless helped many women at a time when the domestic world was centerstage in most women’s lives."

Stay tuned to Binnies social channels for more #IWD updates and insights!
