Future leaders in the asset management field
The creation and delivery of the first-ever Level 4 Asset Management Apprentice Scheme has been shortlisted for the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) UK Awards 2025.
This employer-developed programme was designed to meet the needs of organisations across various sectors, specifically for those working in asset management roles. It offers a valuable new pathway into the profession, blending traditional learning with in-depth exploration of key topics and structured, hands-on experience in the workplace over a 14-month period.
The scheme was successfully delivered to a cohort of ten Thames Water asset management apprentices in 2024, all of whom completed the course successfully. They now have a strong foundation to build their careers in asset management and are expected to become future leaders in the field.
The team behind the scheme
Binnies UK’s asset management team: Our experienced practitioners provided subject matter expertise, developed the course content based on the required knowledge, skills and behaviours and delivered much of the specialist material.
Watertrain: A fellow RSK Group company, a leading provider of apprenticeships and technical training in the water utility sector and an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ provider regulated by the ESFA), Watertrain was the first training provider to deliver this apprenticeship.
Ecfio: A specialist training organisation providing engineering education and consultancy for high-risk process industries, Ecfio offered expertise that ensures the apprentices are well-equipped to carry out safety-critical tasks confidently and competently.
Apprentice experience
The Thames Water graduates began the Level 4 Asset Management Apprentice Scheme in November 2022. One apprentice shared their experience.
Outcomes and recognition
The course achieved a 100% pass rate, with all learners successfully completing the IAM Certificate and moving into full employment upon finishing the scheme.
The winners of the IAM UK Awards will be announced at the celebration dinner on 4 November in Birmingham.
