Double success at the Institute of Asset Management Awards!
Binnies is thrilled to announce its success at the 2021 Institute of Asset Management UK Chapter Conference. Our team won two of the eight Asset Management 2021 Excellence Awards: one in the Corporate Transformation category and one with our partner Rezatec in the Digital Innovator category. This was an excellent result for everyone who was a part of these projects, and a great achievement for Binnies to have had three submissions in the finals.
The Corporate Transformation award showed how Binnies worked collaboratively with Aarhus Vand to increase the maturity of their management systems, enabling them to adapt to new technologies and reach their corporate goals. A data-driven asset management approach was implemented to help optimise their capital expenditure prioritisation, align with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, increase forward planning and risk-based decision-making and create consistent and repeatable operating regimes, and investment plans. The project also focused on building an investment planning system driven by dynamic data, which enables asset projects to be evidence based. The team also drove organisational cultural change by providing Institute of Asset Management Certificate training to several Aarhus Vand operational staff.
The Digital Innovator award showcased our Intelligent Dam Monitoring System (iDMS) that enables operators to remotely manage the quality and safety of their entire asset bases at scale and cost-effectively. Tracking unusual changes in ground movement, vegetation and moisture using satellite and multiple data feeds in combination with advanced artificial intelligence builds a picture of asset health over time, thereby providing accurate insights and alerts on inconsistent activity to support whole-life decision-making and prevent risk of dam failure.
The conference also provided the opportunity for us to showcase our digital and dynamic asset management plans when Principal Asset Management Consultant Dean Beamish co-presented with Dale Gibbons of the Environment Agency. Their presentation described the challenges faced by the project, including partial or historic data sets, and disparate and conflicting stakeholder needs, and how these challenges were overcome. Dean and Dale also described the road map for further enhancement and expansion of the plans up to catchment level early next year and the drive to automate the input data from existing or new Environment Agency systems. These plans will support the prioritisation of flood risk and coastal management objectives for communities in Cumbria and Lancashire and the Environment Agency’s sustainability and carbon-net-zero targets by quantifying and optimising the carbon and power consumption of major pumping assets.
