The BDS Prize celebrates innovation and excellence in dam engineering

We’re proud to announce that Devon Bullock and Anida Zeqirllari, two of Binnies’ talented early-career professionals in the Water Services team, have been shortlisted for the British Dam Society (BDS) Prize Competition Final 2025.

The event at the Institution of Civil Engineers Headquarters in Central London will be available online, as part of the BDS evening meeting.

The BDS Prize celebrates innovation and excellence in dam engineering, with finalists presenting papers that tackle some of the sector’s most pressing challenges. This presents a wonderful opportunity for young professionals to showcase their knowledge, lessons learnt and develop their skills in presenting technical matters to an audience.

  • Devon’s paper, ‘Developing a Workbook to Apply Tier 2 RARS to EA Flood Detention Reservoirs’, introduces practical tools to strengthen risk assessment for flood detention reservoirs.
  • Anida’s paper, ‘Retrofitting Overflow Weirs to Safely Pass Extreme Floods at UK Reservoirs’, focuses on adapting existing infrastructure to withstand increasingly severe weather events.

The competition offers significant recognition with first place award including publication in Dams and Reservoirs. Beyond the prizes, this event highlights the next generation of dam engineering talent and their innovative ideas.

Alongside the technical presentations, the evening will also feature the announcement of winners for the BDS Photography Competition, with selected images showcased on the BDS website and potentially featured on the cover of Dams and Reservoirs.

We wish Devon and Anida the best of luck in the final and congratulate them on this outstanding achievement. Their work reflects Binnies’ commitment to technical excellence and sustainable solutions in water and environmental engineering.
