Flying into Binnies’ environmental team
Binnies is pleased to share that Wendy O’Neill, an ecology professional and ornithologist, has joined us as a principal ecologist. Wendy is based at our office in Chester and contributes to the growing expansion of the environmental services team.
Wendy arrives at Binnies looking for a new challenge after various roles in an ecology discipline, including a long-standing position as a senior ecologist for AECOM. Her career has combined her technical knowledge and skill alongside her personal interest in ornithology. She will specialise in ornithology and non-native plant species work.
When asked about her initial impressions of Binnies and the culture within the business, Wendy responded: “Definitely that everyone is so friendly and welcoming – I felt right at home almost immediately. I am looking forward to taking part in the Chester office’s social activities and getting to know everyone.”
When away from her Binnies desk, Wendy is a keen ornithologist and has lots of experience in handling birds of prey, bird identification and various other avian activities. Having previously completed voluntary work for various environmental organisations, Wendy particularly enjoys recording bird species along the banks of the river Mersey. She has experience of owning her own hawks and falcons and has used them for avian deterrence on commercial and industrial buildings in urban environments. She also carries out biomimicry work for aeronautical engineers using birds of prey.
Emma Stevens, Binnies Head of Environmental Services, expressed her delight at Wendy’s appointment, stating: “Having Wendy join us with her ornithological skills is particularly exciting for our team; we have many junior ornithologists who are very excited to learn from her. She also instantly endeared herself to us all by baking us an excellent cake on her first day – she has many talents!”
