Alice Davis has been shortlisted for the Graduate of the Year category at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West Awards
Since joining us in 2021, she has developed into a highly respected and talented young professional specialising in water, reservoirs and flood management, blending project work on reservoir risk assessments and hands-on experience as an assistant site supervisor.
Over the last eight months, Alice has been a member of the site supervisor team on a £27 million dam safety project, which stores 17 million cubic metres of floodwater. Richard Terrell, Chief Reservoirs Engineer, said, “Alice has great engagement with the site team and has obtained respect through her integrity and professionalism. Site operatives trust her to address issues and willingly point out items on-site they wish resolved.”
Alice has benefitted from many opportunities within Binnies and the wider sector
As a young person’s member of the British Dam Society (BDS), she attended the International Commission on Large Dams conference in Sweden as a UK delegate. Afterwards, she authored a briefing for Dams and Reservoirs on an inspiring technical workshop and presented to colleagues, sharing her learning and enthusiasm. She was also a finalist in the 2023 BDS young person’s paper competition, writing about reservoir risk assessments. This continued engagement and contribution to the industry has provided Alice with continuous learning opportunities, while her site work enables personal development through employing her skills.
Alice is also a champion for inclusivity, running socials for Binnies’ Bradford-on-Avon office and mentoring fellow graduates and interns to help them seek development opportunities. She also participates in a reverse mentoring scheme, mentoring one of Binnies’ senior leaders. These collaborative conversations help her promote an environment where young professionals’ values are embraced, developing a fair, inclusive culture.
