Patri Cuervo joins our flood risk management team
Patri Cuervo is a chartered town planner and joins Binnies from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea where she managed the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) function and water and sewerage infrastructure projects. Patri was also the co-chair of a London-wide network of flood risk management officers and worked with other LLFAs and national stakeholders to direct national flood risk management policy and practice through the Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning and Transport (ADEPT) Flood and Water Management Group.
Patri has joined Binnies’ rapidly growing flood, coast and maritime team that provides expert advice to national and local government bodies which helps them to promote sustainable long-term solutions that best meets the needs of the communities they are seeking to protect.
“Binnies is on an exciting journey of growth and diversification, and no more so than in the flood risk management sector. Patri joins us as a Regional Delivery Manager, supporting us to develop our service for local authorities and leading the delivery of flood risk projects across the East and South-East. She brings extensive skills in developing and implementing planning policy, delivering environmental infrastructure and surface water management. In the current climate and ecological emergency, this adds a great dimension to our current offering, truly embodying our mission to enhance lives, communities and the environment,” commented Hannah Coogan, Regional Delivery Director, Binnies UK.
Patri started her career in environmental services, then moved into planning, working in conservation before joining the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s planning policy team in 2008. She managed the Thames Tideway Tunnel project for the council and was also in charge of flood risk and waste policy development. In 2010, she implemented the (then) new Lead Local Flood Authority statutory duties and managed the Counters Creek Flood Alleviation Scheme. Patri has also worked on secondment to the Environment Agency to set up teams of senior officers supporting the Thames Regional Flood and Coastal Committee to deliver a six-year programme of flood alleviation schemes. Patri has worked closely with different organisations such as ADEPT, the Greater London Authority, London Councils, CIRIA and the Environment Agency to develop new guidance on different topics and to support organisations and communities in London to prepare for increased occurrences of flooding. Patri has been a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute since 2014.
