A joint venture (JV) between Binnies and Arup has been appointed by the Water Supplies Department (WSD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to deliver multidisciplinary services for the San Tin Water Reclamation Plant (STWRP). This appointment underscores the JV’s technical innovation and capability to deliver sustainable solutions for smart, green and resilient infrastructure in the region.
The STWRP represents a critical step forward in diversifying water resources and enhancing overall water resilience. As a sustainable, highly advanced water recycling facility, the plant is designed to secure a stable water supply to meet future development and population needs.
The plant will be designed for a tentative treatment capacity of 112,500 cubic metres per day, treating high-quality effluent from the San Tin Effluent Polishing Plant to produce reclaimed water primarily for toilet flushing, district cooling and other non-potable purposes.
The Binnies and Arup JV will deliver comprehensive services across design, project management, construction supervision, testing and commissioning. Being appointed also for the upstream San Tin Effluent Polishing Plant, the JV will apply a highly integrated approach, combining deep technical expertise with seamless collaboration, ensuring the safe, efficient and holistic delivery of the region’s water infrastructure.
By transforming wastewater into a valuable resource, the STWRP plays a key role in implementing Hong Kong’s integrated approach to water management, supporting resource recovery while benefiting both the environment and the community.
