Binnies wins at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva

The automated drainage network design software developed by Binnies Hong Kong for the Drainage Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has won a silver medal at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva.

Effective drainage design plays an important role in developing more sustainable and intelligent drainage infrastructure to tackle Hong Kong’s urban flooding challenges. The drainage digital software, DRAINVISION, has been developed to provide an advanced solution to automatically create detailed designs and calculations for drainage systems and manholes to enhance efficiency in drainage network planning.

This innovative invention optimises the design process by generating drainage and structural drawings through using the Building Information Model (BIM) software. By combining data analytics and structural simulation, the digital tool processes 3D ground surface models, enabling users to design drainage networks based on initial input of polylines and subsequently carry out the structural design of manholes. This streamlined approach not only ensures the structural integrity and safety of the infrastructural project but also leads to significant time and cost savings. Additionally, the integration of an AI chatbot enhances user experience by addressing queries related to design and user manuals.

The 50th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, held from April 9 to 13 in Switzerland, is the world’s most significant annual event devoted exclusively to inventions, which has showcased nearly 1,050 submissions from 35 countries and regions of inventors, universities, institutes and companies.
