National Government

Binnies has worked with national government agencies around the globe for more than 100 years in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to multiple clients from the water, environmental and infrastructure sectors.

Leveraging our global expertise in planning, design, engineering and construction management, we provide cost-effective, environmentally sustainable and technically sound solutions to water infrastructure including water supply, water quality, sewage collection and treatment, water reclamation, flood protection and flood risk management. For example, our work with the Environment Agency in the UK has increased the level of flood protection for more than 5500 residential and commercial properties in Burton upon Trent. This flood risk management scheme won the Judges’ Award at the annual ICE West Midlands Awards ceremony, 2021.

Binnies provided professional engineering services overseeing the development, engineering and construction of the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System, a water reuse infrastructure project in Singapore that is providing a cost-effective and sustainable solution to support continued growth and meet the city’s long-term needs for used water infrastructure. We have also delivered some of the world’s largest, award-winning water supply projects including four of the five desalination projects in Singapore.

We also work with government clients to solve their most complex environmental challenges, from alleviating flood risks, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and harnessing green energy to sustainable waste management. Successful environmental projects include the Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) in Singapore. Based on the most advanced waste-to-energy technology, IWMF will be the world’s largest energy recovery facility and meet the nation’s solid waste management needs. By co-locating the facility with the new Tuas water reclamation plant, it will be possible to achieve the highest energy efficiency and lowest greenhouse gas footprint.
