Binnies can support you in your journey to achieving ISO 55001 certification
Why do you need ISO 55001?
Asset-intensive organisations often have the desire to improve but don’t always know the best way forward. By undertaking an ISO 55001 assessment, we support organisations in developing their entire asset management system. Companies that embark on the accreditation journey and conform to the requirements of ISO 55001 realise business objectives, regulatory compliance and improved business decision-making.
Binnies was among the first organisations to be appointed by the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) as Endorsed Assessors. We are reputable assessment providers and deliver relevant, high-quality asset management assessments. We have a team of knowledgeable assessors who have in-depth knowledge of ISO 55001 and the asset management landscape. They will perform an independent assessment of your business in terms of ISO 55001 compliance and make clear recommendations for action to address areas for improvement.
By qualifying for the IAM’s endorsement, Binnies has demonstrated a commitment to the suite of ISO 55000 standards and a sufficient level of rigour and impartiality in its approach to this work. For those organisations interested in improvement, an asset management maturity assessment will give more information to guide future improvement activities.
Gap analysis assessment process
Benefits of an external assessment
A gap assessment can be done internally or externally; however, an external assessment promotes understanding, creates momentum by bringing in best practices and contributes to change management as there is less resistance to change.
Binnies uses the IAM’s ‘Self-Assessment Methodology’ (SAM) tool to carry out the gap analysis assessment. This gap analysis is executed in the form of a maturity assessment and converts the pass/fail requirement for certification into a more useful tool for identifying and prioritising improvement opportunities.
Binnies uses the ISO 55000 standard to assess how well the asset management system is organised. We assess to what extent asset management activities are performed, using the following techniques:
- analysis of policies, processes and information
- interviews with subject matter experts
- investigation into the performance of activities
- assessing the observations in the form of a maturity scale, and
- analysis in the form of a RADAR plot summary.
This enables companies to compare multiple items against the criteria in the IAM’s conceptual model and reports the extent to which their asset management system and asset management activities comply with ISO 55001. We provide an explanation on what aspects of a company’s asset management system and asset management activities could be improved.
