Utilising data science, geospatial intelligence and technological innovation, we help create asset systems that are sustainable and intelligent.
We are redefining what digital means for infrastructure
At Binnies, we partner with clients and innovative technology providers to build the resilient, data-driven infrastructure that future generations will depend on.
By uniting our engineering heritage with data science, geospatial intelligence and technological innovation, we help clients create asset systems that are predictive, sustainable and intelligent. Every digital service we deliver is designed to provide our clients with actionable insight that adds value and manages risk.
By combining digital twins, scientific machine learning (SciML) and collaboration with leading digital innovators, we help utility organisations design, operate and maintain assets that think ahead – infrastructure that continually learns, adapts and improves.
Get in touchTurning complex data into practical intelligence
Our digital engineering experts, geographic information system (GIS) specialists and in-house software team utilise real-time monitoring, geospatial modelling and predictive analytics to give clients a complete view of their asset base and the confidence to act proactively, optimising performance, cost and carbon across the full asset life cycle.
We have the expertise to design and deliver our own performance-enhancing digital tools, including our industry-leading digital twin platform, HELIX, while connecting clients to the latest innovations across the sector. This combination of in-house capability and external collaboration creates solutions that are fully integrated, intelligent, and built for measurable impact.

Digital twin development
Connecting the physical and digital worlds
Our digital twin platform, HELIX, is more than a visual replica; it is an intelligent, data-driven integrator that brings together engineering expertise with advanced modelling and predictive analytics to optimise real-world assets and processes. Built with the end user in mind, HELIX answers the needs of teams across the utility, from tactical asset performance management to strategic investment planning support.
Our approach ensures that every solution is designed around value to evolve as new data, analytical methods and visualisation technologies emerge. It provides a truly adaptive, future-proof solution that helps clients anticipate change, optimise performance and make better-informed decisions across the entire asset life cycle.
Our data science team enhances this capability with analytics and visualisations that can be embedded directly into client systems or delivered through our HELIX digital twin platform, which integrates our own tools and partner technologies to provide a seamless, sector-focused ecosystem.
We have applied this expertise to major programmes including Anglian Water’s Strategic Pipeline, Yorkshire Water’s Dynamic Maintenance Programme and Singapore’s Public Utilities Board.

Scientific Machine Learning (SciML)
Predicting the unseen with the science of AI
Binnies is leading the introduction of scientific machine learning (SciML) to the UK water sector – a new class of AI that combines physics and data to revolutionise asset health and performance.
Traditional machine learning depends on large volumes of clean, historical data – something the water sector rarely has. SciML changes that. It integrates engineering principles such as fluid dynamics and thermodynamics into AI models, allowing accurate predictions even when data are incomplete or limited. This means asset behaviour can be modelled using existing engineering information – such as pump curves, design specifications and operational parameters – with accuracy rates of up to 80% before any data calibration.
Early asset health detection
By fusing physical understanding with machine learning, SciML can detect asset health issues before they occur, identify efficiency losses and predict failure modes that traditional models miss. It supports a move away from reactive maintenance toward proactive asset health management – reducing unplanned failures, cost and carbon and improving operational resilience.
Binnies first identified SciML’s potential after analysing the limits of traditional predictive analytics. By partnering with leading experts Williams GP Technologies and JuliaHub, Binnies is bringing the worlds of elite motorsport and advanced AI to the water sector. We have adapted proven techniques from high-performance sectors, such as aerospace and Formula 1, to water and environmental infrastructure.
This approach has already demonstrated transformational results. In a Southern Water pilot focused on borehole pump performance, Binnies achieved up to 95% fault detection accuracy using existing sensor data layered with engineering information. The SciML model identified energy efficiency losses, optimised control settings and provided live predictive monitoring of pump health – all without additional sensors or major data upgrades.

The potential goes far beyond asset health
SciML can be applied across treatment optimisation, energy reduction and carbon management, enabling predictive insights that enhance both performance and sustainability. It offers a scalable, future-ready framework for predictive operations, allowing utilities to unlock greater value from the data and engineering knowledge they already hold.
Through SciML, Binnies is driving a fundamental shift in how the industry manages its critical assets, moving from reactive to predictive, from fragmented data to connected intelligence and from incremental improvement to transformational resilience.
