Health, safety and wellbeing
Guided by our sense of purpose, we are committed to creating safe, healthy and supportive workplaces.
At Binnies, we are proud of our health, safety and wellbeing of our people and those affected by our work are fundamental to how we operate. Guided by our sense of purpose – enhancing lives, communities and the environment – we are committed to creating safe, healthy and supportive workplaces where everyone goes home safe, every day.
Our approach is behaviour based, embedding health, safety and wellbeing into every stage of project delivery, from early design through to construction, operation and maintenance. This commitment has been recognised across the industry, including winning the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) UK Water Sector Award in 2024 and achieving Order of Distinction Health and Safety Awards for both our UK business (23 consecutive Golds).
We actively support the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of our employees through strong leadership, active engagement and a culture built on care, trust and respect. This enables our people to thrive while delivering our work responsibly and sustainably.
Health and safety excellence
ENGAGED with health, safety and wellbeing
Our ENGAGED programme brings together behavioural science and health, safety and wellbeing to create a positive culture where everyone feels empowered to raise concerns, share ideas, and take responsibility for their own HSW and that of others.
We recognise that a safe, healthy and happy workforce enables us all to achieve our aims, goals and ambitions at home, at work and within our communities.
With the support and dedication of our 90+ ENGAGED Champions, we encourage open conversations, embedding HSW into our thinking and promoting a shared commitment to keeping everyone safe and well.

ENGAGED with Projects
ENGAGED with Projects marks a significant step forward in our drive to embed health, safety and wellbeing across every project we deliver, making them visible and natural parts of everyday project discussions.
It is split into six key themes, each designed to encourage active engagement, so that every team member feels empowered to raise concerns, share ideas and take responsibility for their own and others’ health, safety and wellbeing.
Mental health and wellbeing
We are committed to creating a workplace where mental health and wellbeing are actively supported and everyone feels safe and secure to speak up and seek help.
Our network of Mental Health First Aiders provides active support across the business, complemented by access to external expert advice and professional support services.
Living Wage accreditation
We are certified by the Living Wage Foundation, highlighting our commitment to treating all members of staff fairly for the work they do.
