We were recognised for our outstanding achievements in project delivery at the NEC Martin Barnes Awards 2025
The Shek Wu Hui Water Reclamation Plant project won the Grand Award in the ‘Climate Change Initiatives’ category while our site formation and infrastructure works for public housing developments in West New Territories of Hong Kong was highly commended for the Professional Services of the Year Award. These accolades highlight our commitment to excellence in project delivery through collaborative partnerships and our continuous efforts in driving sustainability in project implementation.
Hong Kong’s first large-scale regional water reclamation plant
The reclamation plant produces high quality reclaimed water for non-potable uses serving a population of over 530,000 in the Northern Metropolis.
Designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, the plant ensures a consistent supply by utilising local wastewater resources, thus minimizing environmental harm and saving precious water resources. The robust and optimised process enhances energy efficiency, together with the adoption of smart applications and various add-on green features significantly help reduce carbon emissions.
Recognised for its long-term societal benefits, this sustainable urban water infrastructure saves around 22 million cubic metres of non-potable fresh water use each year, and contributes to climate resilience by introducing a promising water source which strengthens the stability of Hong Kong’s water resources.
The ‘Professional Services of the Year’ award recognises organisations who deliver excellent professional services through innovation, client satisfaction and leadership in sustainability, qualities that we demonstrated in the successful delivery of site information and infrastructure works for various housing development sites in West New Territories under five NEC contracts.
As the Consultant appointed by Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), Binnies are responsible for the design and supervision of the site formation projects for public housing covering a total of 45,200 population. To ensure the delivery of homes on time to meet the needs of the community, a robust risk management system was put in place to enhance works efficiency. A range of smart safety initiatives were implemented to enhance work safety and reduce disruptions while various sustainable construction solutions were adopted to minimise impact to the environment and community.
Demonstrating NEC’s core value of strong collaboration, the project team successfully navigated challenges related to project complexity and tight timelines and completed the site formation and related engineering works ahead of schedule with significant cost savings.
