Expertise supporting digital British Standards creation
Binnies’ Principal Appraisal Specialist Rob Earle has been appointed to a British Standards Institution committee and one of its sub-groups. We are proud that Rob’s experience and pragmatic approach have been recognised and he will be a valuable addition to the team. Rob said, “I am passionate about finding ways to explore and share how digital solutions can deliver sustainable solutions for ourselves and our clients and this work will help transform the way the construction sector manages its health and safety data.”
Rob has joined the B/555/-/6 steering panel and will be supporting the development of ISO 19650-6, the building information modelling (BIM) standard for collaborative creation, management and use of health and safety data across the whole asset life cycle.
Commissioned by the Environment Agency, Rob authored the first successful business case in the country for a client organisation to adopt PAS 1192 Part 6. Rob brought together Environment Agency professionals, industry experts and other key stakeholders and worked collaboratively with them to build a compelling argument. The project worked towards improving health and safety outcomes for people and will help the Environment Agency and its partners reach their sustainability goals. Digital health and safety information will be stored, managed and shared efficiently for the entirety of an asset’s life, reducing the need to travel to sites to resurvey or reproduce lost data and therefore lowering costs.
Rob has also now joined the ISO/TC 59/SC 13/WG 13 sub-group, which is developing the structure of the underlying data schema that support the standard. He hopes to bring real-world experience into the process to ensure the structures are future-proofed and that they work well for all users of the ISO standard across the globe.
