Multifaceted information modelling with 4D, 5D and carbon processes

We are pleased to have been appointed, through our WSP Binnies joint venture, to lead the development and implementation of multifaceted information modelling for the Environment Agency (EA), which includes 4D, 5D and carbon processes and the connection of the data that sits behind these.

The EA is modernising asset and data management practices to be more effective and efficient

The EA’s digital asset data and information team vision is for the EA and its partners to have information they can trust and rely on, even when it is produced by someone else, to make sound business decisions more quickly. This will enable staff and partners to be productive anytime, anywhere, from any device, using the most appropriate technology.

The project focus will be on dimensions of information known as 4D, 5D and carbon

The 4D process involves a schedule of works being linked to the data within a 3D model, providing the opportunity to optimise delivery by easily testing a range of scenarios, including proposed logistics. The process known as 5D enables the computer-based extraction of quantities from a model that can be linked to cost and carbon data. All of this gives a better appreciation of financial and carbon costs, more accurate forecasting and better opportunity and risk assessment, enabling more confident and safer delivery.
