Recognition and appreciation for the wonderful Binnies people

It was a night of celebration for Binnies UK employees on Wednesday, 27 September, as the business hosted its first ever Binnies People Awards – a new employee awards programme – during a spectacular evening at the Birmingham Central Library, UK.

The 2023 finalists were shortlisted for award categories that reflect the values and ethos of Binnies. The health and safety, social value and sustainability categories were chosen to support the company’s sense of purpose by focusing on both individuals’ and projects’ positive impacts on lives, communities and the environment. There were also categories to recognise individual achievements at different career stages, including our early careers professionals.

The finalists, along with the awards judging panels, representatives of Binnies-sponsored associations and employee resource groups, were invited to come together for an exciting evening in the Birmingham Central Library, an inspiring venue that was opened by Malala Yousafzai in 2013 and was awarded BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status in 2013 after recycling 95% of waste material from its original construction site. The library celebrates knowledge, skill and achievements, aligning with the foundation of the Binnies People Awards.

Binnies is passionate about demonstrating its ENGAGED values

The inaugural awards were hosted by Binnies’ Tony Koodie, Rebecca Howe and Mark Gilding, who had the honour of presenting a night of recognition and appreciation for the wonderful Binnies people.

Also in attendance was Sustainable Engineering Solutions Divisional Director Gary Young, who remarked: “At 62 years young and having attended over 100 awards nights during my career, I went to my best awards night ever on Wednesday evening, being kindly invited to the Binnies UK People Awards event at the Library of Birmingham. We give names to collections of things, such as a school of fish or a murder of crows; I like to call our people ‘a blessing of Binnies’.”

Scott Aitken, Managing Director at Binnies UK, said: “A huge congratulations to all our winners and our highly commended finalists at our 2023 Binnies People Awards. It was inspiring to see and hear about the amazing things our people achieve every day and the passion and talent they bring to enhancing lives, communities and the environment.

“I’ve always known how much our people care about what they do, and our awards and recognition this year have reinforced that. Congratulations once again, and many thanks to everyone involved with the event.”

Binnies is passionate about demonstrating its ENGAGED values – empowered, non-judgemental, genuine, appreciative, growing, excellence and diverse – by recognising and appreciating its people, and the Binnies People Awards is one of the ways we do this.
