Project overview
The grey water treatment plant for the Anderson Road Quarry development site is the first district-based grey water recycling system in Hong Kong. The plant, with a design capacity of 3300 m3/day, provides centralised comprehensive treatment for the grey water collected from baths, showers, washbasins and kitchen sinks, in the development area, for toilet flushing and other non-potable purposes.
Our role
Binnies is the engineering consultant for the Water Supplies Department and is responsible for carrying out the design, planning and site investigation, preparing tender documents, assessing tenders and supervising the construction of the grey water treatment plant.
- Overcome various site constraints, including limited site space and insufficient data for planning and design
- Enhance the sustainability of the water supply infrastructure
- Develop a smart system to ensure the efficiency and reliability of the water supply in the development area
- Optimise opportunities for public co-use and community connection
- Adopt a compact design and small-footprint treatment technologies and conduct comprehensive studies and assessments to develop a robust design
- Implement various energy-saving measures, such as monitoring and analysis of energy usage, optimising natural ventilation and installing solar panels
- Use of a near-real-time operation simulation system and a digital twin solution for smart monitoring and optimising control of the entire water cycle
- Integrating a green roof as a designated recreational space for the public and maximising educational opportunities by developing an educational centre and guided tours
